When I’m drunk, I dream about Republicans

July 6th, 2009

I kind of sort of went a little heavy on the summer drinks yesterday, and I kind of sort of have a nasty little hangover this morning. My first, actually, which is odd. I have gotten drunk before.

My brain, processing way too much booze and the normal mess of information I toss into it, decided to show me a film of the most cohesive dream I’ve had in a long time, a presidential race between Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan. Yes, I know they’re both Republicans in name, but Roosevelt was a very different kind of Republican than Reagan. See his biography and pay particular attention to the Square Deal.  Besides, it’s a dream.  I should be happy it wasn’t James T. Kirk and Alexander the Great.  No vice-presidential candidates were in attendance.

In the dream I was pro-Roosevelt, and was supposed to set up his web site and Twitter feed. The web site was easy; the Twitter feed was challenging. All he’d tweet was “bully”, which turned into a joke as people would re-tweet it, and it turned perfectly silly.

They had a debate, but I can’t recall any specifics, other than both men arrived on horseback (I suspect in real life Roosevelt, being a cavalry man, would have been the better rider, but they both seemed equally at ease in the dream) and Reagan situated Nancy right behind the camera so he could address her, not a lens, and when he was to tackle a tough question, she’d smile as encouragingly as she could, which I found sweet.

My roommate woke be before the poll results could come in.  I wanted to see who won.
