Fast fair isle

October 6th, 2009

I bought the kit for these socks when I was trying to learn fair isle, and then stuffed it in stash.  It might have been a good kit to learn fair isle on, but I never bothered to pull them out of stash, instead knitting a variety of colorwork patterns of all sorts, and getting comfortable on the technique with other projects.

This weekend, they finally called to me and demanded to be knit.  These worked up in two days.  They’re knit on size 3 needles, the pattern is so interesting that you’re constantly doing something new, and they were an addicting fast knit.  I love them.

Pretty. I like the short repeats. My current fair isle project (aguona laptop case) has long floats, and the tension is usually off one way or the other. Good learning project because I can see how I improved over the course of the project.

Do you knit one colour per hand, or both in the same hand? I found my left colour was looser, so now do both colours continental.

I go one color per hand, and I sometimes switch which hand holds which color in order to even things out. My left hand used to be a lot looser, but it’s getting more even over time.

I love the aguana laptop case project. It was a lot of fun, but yeah those floats are long and have to be trapped.
