This is a bonus video to demonstrate the important skill of tinking, or working back, in order to fix a mistake in knitting.
In this video we look back at how far we’ve come. Then we talk about our next project, socks. We talk about different forms of sock construction and why socks are so appealing. Then we tell you how to start knitting socks, which is exactly like how we started the mitten.
We referenced the Magic Loop Booklet for knitting socks on a long circular needle and Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles.
In this episode we talk about our second decrease method, the slip slip knit. We show you the kitchener stitch to graft closed the top of the mitten. We also show you how to make your thumb stitches live, pick up stitches to get the thumb going.
For our iTunes viewers, we’re working on the problem with being able to transfer to the Video iPod. Make sure you are getting the files with the extension of m4v. That should resolve it for you. I’ll be converting the earlier files as soon as I can figure out how to do that without messing up the order on the feed. If you want to do that with your own files, go into iTunes, click on the file and click on Advanced->Convert Selection for iPod.
This is long, so there are five YouTube videos. Here they are: Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, Video 4, and Video 5.
In this episode we look at moving the thumb stitches to scrap yarn and continuing up the hand of the mitten.

We’re posting transcripts of our episodes in PDF format for the hearing impaired.
In this video we start knitting our mitten and we talk about working with double pointed needles and increases. I show a cool trick for avoiding ladders. I also teach you how to do a basic increase.
In this video we finish the hat. I teach the Knit 2 Together (K2Tog) decrease method and I teach you to sew up a seam, in knitting, which is different than other kinds of sewing.
We now have a voice mail line. You can call us at 206-984-9499. The number is listed on the sidebar.
We start the hat and look at ribbing and stockinette.
I have a group of short knitting videos up on YouTube and we have a wiki that will put text and picture descriptions as well as small videos of each of the techniques we’ve covered as we go. Links to both will remain on the sidebar.
We’re having a contest. E-mail a photo of your finished scarf to Ivy@KnittingStepbyStep.com with the subject “Scarf Picture” by September 15, 2007, and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a cool tote bag.
The video has an odd hiccup at about 9 1/2 minutes in, but it goes away fast.
