- The Knitter's Companion: Expanded and Updated (The Companion series)
covers all of the techniques you'll need in an encyclopedic format. Great for reference.
- A Treasury of Knitting Patterns
and the rest of the series. When you start to design your own patterns, you'll need a good stitch dictionary.
- Knitting Around
one of the best books by the master herself.
- Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks
is both funny and informative. Lots of good information interspersed with lots of humor.

This video was done very well - easy to follow and easier to remember the technique by her method of naming the circular needles as “udder” needle and the working needle. Thanks!
